How the practice of bio-art can foster ecological consciousness?
coleoptero
Coleoptero is a community-based learning experience in which families engage in nature-art using bio-plastics and elements foraged from local parks. Participants engage in recursive cycles of foraging, making, and reflection. As a way to size the scale of the plastic problem, participants first collect plastic garbage from the park and discuss the life cycle of petroleum-derived plastic. Then, they learn how to make plastic derived from biodegradable materials such as algae and cellulose. Using pigments foraged from local roots, petals, and metals, participants add colors to their plastics. Finally, they ensemble their art pieces using natural fibers. The resulting art pieces remain in the park until they are entirely re-integrated into the Earth again.
