How can a game foster a growth mindset in kids?

Cutting edge research on cognitive science recognizes the importance of having a growth mindset to be a successful learner (Dueck, 2008). For this project, we designed a game that fosters a growth mindset attitude towards challenges in kids by rewarding a positive attitude toward difficulties instead of correct answers. Our biggest problem was to apply our incipient knowledge in programming to develop a real functioning game. We solve it with perseverance and hours of trial and error in front of the black screen. As a result, we learned in first person the importance of having a growth mindset when learning something difficult as computer programming, we challenged ourselves and pushed our knowledge boundaries.

MA student project developed with Adriana Selman, for Object Oriented Programming I class.
